Vote 1 Paul Dare - Independent for Lyons
Policies
Single Politician - Local Electorates
- 35 individual electorates to make the major parties accountable to all Tasmanians
- Optional preferential voting – No Hare-Clarke
- Currently the biggest electorate is Lyons, which includes areas diverse as Port Arthur, St Helens, Evandale, Railton, Bothwell and New Norfolk as well all the areas in between including Oatlands and Campbell Town. Lyons has around 80000 registered voters.
- The current system allows for the major parties to be ‘guaranteed’ at least one, most likely two, seats.
- It makes it easy for the government of the day to say, “We did this in the electorate!” When in fact it could be of no importance to the majority of the electorate. Also having seven same party nominations helps this parties game the system and does nothing to help the independents or single nomination parties.
- Single person electorates would mean that candidates would be judged solely on their own merits and abilities and also it would mean most politicians would be answerable to no more than approximately 11 500 electors. Now that is local.
- Also, people elected to the new smaller electorates must live in the electorate, with the added bonus of quicker counts and smaller ballot papers.
- For myself, it would be great to vote 1 for myself and the up to 7 for independents and smaller parties, just to show how the system is broken.
Tourism Tax
- Last year there was over 1 300 000 tourists visiting Tasmania. If every visitor over 18 to has to pay $20 per visit.
- This would raise over $20 million per year for tourism grants and promotions.
Macquarie Point Stadium
- I am pro football team. I believe the stadium is necessary to ensure not only increased state revenue, but to give our football team the best chance of succeeding.
- In summary, I am pro Macquarie Point Stadium.
Treaty
- A non-liability treaty between the people of Tasmania and the First Nations that existed prior to colonisation.
- This treaty will help acknowledge the good and bad when it comes to the treatment of the Palawa people. It will not however be able to be used for reparations and the like with respect to our shared history.
- It will make our history truthful and real, it will enable all Tasmanians to move forward with pride.
Farm Gate Sales
- Farm gate sales will be buyer aware, including meat.
- Meat can only be sold for private consumption.
- There still will be a need for records to be kept and available for auditing, but in general will be free of regulation.
Food Security
- As more prime agricultural land is lost to housing and lifestyle blocks, there is a need to ensure the survivability not only of large corporate farms, but also small family farms. Too much consolidation is bad for the industry.
- As a relatively small acreage farmer, it is near impossible to make a living without off farm income. I want to make it easier to value add to locally produced food while at the same time making good food affordable to all Tasmanians.
- As a priority, a standalone Department of Food Security should be established to achieve this.
Emus
- Tasmania used to have emus, they became extinct in Tasmania in the early 1800’s. I would love to see them returned to Tasmania.
- Re wild Tasmania with emus.
Good Accountable Governance
- If you are like me and sick of career politicians, sick of party politics, sick of the negativity, sick of those who automatically oppose change, then vote for change!
- Vote for people who don’t care about the next election cycle, but only want the best for the state.
- Vote for people who want progress, and not those who oppose.
- Vote to make Tasmania the best it can be for the majority.
- Vote 1 Paul Dare.
Fast Train
- Initially between Hobart and Launceston (1 hour time max)
- This will help to future proof the state.
- Powered by 100% renewable electricity, saving wear and tear on highways.
- Open up more housing options and make Campbell Town and Oatlands within 30 minutes of Launceston and Hobart respectively.
- 70 % of Tasmanians within 1 hour of the capital, and our football team
- Eventually expand it statewide.
- This is a vision for the future, it has so many positives, it just needs will of the people and the government.

Forced to retire in 2019 due to injuries sustained during service, Paul is now limited to 8 hours a week work (including volunteering). Whilst this will affect his ability to be full time, it is also a challenge to the general public to accept disabilities at all levels of government including their politicans.
If elected Paul would donate half his salary to Tasmanian charities.
Paul just wants to leave Tasmania a better place.
